Another Death Avenue for Our Kids

Our kids are now exposed to all kind of risk due to poor planning of safety for events and training organized by the government.

Year after year we have kids died during the national training. Today we have kids died because of 1Malaysia event.

If you do not know how to plan for safety don't organised anything.

There is no need to show your condolence in Parliment and expect everthing will be fine for the rest of us. We just got enough of your acting.

To all the parents who lost their kids .. May God bless all of them.

When a small pipe burst - LDP way

Well done LDP for making a lot of money by letting thousand of vehicles crawled along your highway for more than two hours.

You know you could inform the highway users to divert before the massive traffic jam built up but making money is your top priority.

Such a lousy PR from a public listed company only shows how greedy LDP is. Shame on you. No need for Selamat Hari Raya for your staff this year.

I hope LDP knows how to spend this sin money !

ISA - Why close the road to the city? Real stupid action.

I am sick of those who are in power. Real sick. I don't think they have brain to run the country.

Closing the road to the city and preventing people to do what is necessary for their important activities is a real stupid move. They did this once when I need to send my kids to college about 1 year ago.

Today they close the road to the city again and my kid missed the bus that is supposed to take her to a college in Kedah. I am very sure their brainless action had also affected other parents and kids.

To those in power , just don't blame all those who take action to protest against the government. Blame it also on your stupid strategy.

Dua Kali Dua Empat - The old song is alive again in Malaysian School

I am glad the government had made decision to use Malay language for Math and science subjects. Now I can sing with my kids the 'sefer' song "Dua kali Dua Empat .....".

I could not understand who made the recommendation to use English earlier.

I did all my math and science at primary level in Malay language and never had problem during the university time and in fact most of the time I did better that those English students from UK. One of my friend who completed his study in Seoul University, Korea also did very well in his study.

Both of us had done many iconic projects initiated by Dr Mahathir and he should be proud that the language our engineers learned during their chilhood days were Malay not English.

What's next for Malaysian Builders?

Design a stadium is not an easy task. After the collapse of the stadium in Kuala Trengganu my mind quickly had a flash back on my experience designing Bukit Jalil Stadium in accelerated time trying to meet the Commonwealth Games many years ago.

As usual Malaysian are good at doing things in a rush manner. The country does not have enough engineers who are passionate with the design. Most of the engineers prefer to work with construction companies due to higher pay or project managment companies due to less responsibilites or technically less demanding.

...more to come...

Solving a bridge problem

Two years ago a contractor excavated a river close to existing bridge piers (without temporary protection) resulting in serious scouring to the bridge piles. As a result the bridge had to be closed.

While cleaning my hard disk recently, I happened to locate what I had drawn on a white board during a mid night discussion before asking the minister to close the bridge.

Nothing happened to the contractor. No penalties . Blame it on river discharge increased over time because some local council did not ask the housing developer close by to build retention pond.

Three days ago I happened to drove by a road at the perimeter of Jaya Supermarket 2 hours before the collapse. There is no terrorist to be blame here except the Contractor. There are not many jobs in town so there were so many excavators idling waiting for short term rental. So they tought they can just bring as many excavator as they can and finish the job before the authorities caught them.

Some of Malaysia Contractor's mentality never change.

Why can't we have the list of all the problematic contractors with the directors name online so we can help the local council to check these culprits. Our local council and their staff are too busy issuing summon to car owners who park their car all over the place along the road side.

Will the contractor get serious punishment this time. ? I don't think so. Maybe the same contractor will be working next to your house next months doing something you cannot imagine.

Watch out.!

Third Bridge to Singapore ?

What a ridiculous idea ?. Why Malaysia need a bridge conecting to Singapore on the eastern Johor just to develop eastern Johor.

Malaysia leader should crack their head to find ways to stimulate the economy of eastern Johor internally and not by depending on Singaporean.

After spending a big sum of money on stupidly engineered crook bridge the government is still thinking Singapore are good neighbour.

Exora : You'll be amazed!

Exora : On the way to show room

I'm too busy trying to sort issue with PLKN and arranging a friend from Italy who need to return home due to dengue . There was no spare time for me to see the latest MPV launched by Proton.

Amazed ? - not really - the external design looks interesting but 1600 cc CAMPRO seems a bit under powered for a 7 seater MPV.

I not sure whether to choose EXORA, Lavina or AVANZA.

PPSMI : Which way to go?

Are you confused with the current situation regarding PPSMI?.
Lets study the following three cases:

Myself:
Primary School : Malay (4A+1B) for Standard 5
Remove Class : English
Form 1 to Form 3 : English - scored 7 A
Form 4 to From 5: English - science school
A-Level : English in UK (3A + 1B) : Maths, Physics. (The lecturer called me "King of Vectors" -not bad for a guy who learned basic mathematics in Malay language)
Degree : English in UK :
Authored two technical papers for International Journal.

My Brother:
Primary School : Malay
Secondary School : Malay
Asasi Science USM : English
Degree : USM : English
Master : USM : English
PhD : USM : English
Authored : Several research papers + 1 patent.

My Daughter:
Primary School : Malay
Secondary School : English (PPSMI)
PMR : PPSMI : 7A + 1B
SPM : PPSMI : 11A1 + 1 A2
A-Level : English :Pre Medic.

I came from very poor family (my father was a rubber taper) but I considered myself lucky since I obtained a lot encouragement for my study from my uncle/unties who were school teachers.

Although I love to see my children learn Maths and Science in English personally I found it difficult to teach them in English at their primary level.

I can imagine how difficult it is for parent of children who are poor and don't use English daily to help their kids with their homework. Parents can help their kids with their Maths and Science homework better if they understand the subject and can explain to their kids in their common language.

I encouraged my kids to talk in English at home but it was not so successful since I married a kampung girl who only speaks a bit of English.

I personally faced a lot of problem when my kids asked me to help them with the Arabic Language homework because I never learn Arabic Language during my school days.

My thought :

Science and Maths should be thought in Malay for the first 2-3 years with minor introduction of basic English technical terms. Until they grasped the basic understanding of these abstract subject then teaching them in any language will be meaningful.

My problem:

I found it very difficult to write official letter to government office in Malay. I also found it very difficult to read technical paper written in Malay.

I had presented technical papers International Seminar in English but I dont think many will understand if the same paper was translated and presented in KL in Malay language since not many Malaysian engineers are familiar with Malay technical terms.

Most of my meetings with government officers were done in English except for the introduction. I even once made a presentation for a study to the previous Prime Minister in English. So Malay language had lost its importance.

My Experience:

I had worked in UK, handled clients from UK, US, China, Korea, Middle East and Japan. English language is not the reason for these people to be at the forefront of the technology. It is their will to learn.

Due to the nature of my work I have to employ either First Class or Second Upper graduates and they came from all kind of races. English language is a problem for some Malay graduates but most of them are determine to improve themselves if proper guidance are given to them. Chinese and Indian graduates speaks English better. Malay Engineers do not speak in English among them.

Somehow I found irrespective of the proficiency in English some Malay engineers performed better than the other races.

My Conclusion:

English language is not the main reason for the Malay to be deprived of sucess in the economic and academic world. There are a lot of British people who write and speak perfect English but did not do well in Science and Maths.

Maths and Science can be thought in any language. Success in these two fields do not depend on good English.

It is not the type of language that you used to teach the children but how you make your kids love and understand what your are teaching.

You can learn Einstein's Theory of Relativity in Japanese , Malay, English, Hebrew, German languages. Similarly, there is no special language for maths and science but I would loved to learn this subjects in Malay.

Perak : A strange state with too many frogs

Perak recently created history by having a new Menteri Besar who governed the state with several ADUN including 3 'frogs'.

The state had lost it prime times due to lost in demand for it's tin is now facing a serious problem with the lost of moral of its ADUN.

It is time for the Perakian to wake up form their dream.

I hope the frog population will not increase in the near future otherwise the country will face very serious problem.

Guys if you are driving through this state ...you should know what to do with the frogs...

Perak : Waiting for Hell

If you asked me whether I'm happy or sad over what had happened in Perak. I am glad that the younger generation now know more about what the country leaders and politicians are made of.

Everyone is talking of the law that they themselves created and no one talks about the truth. So to all the unfaithful people and leaders of Perak I pray that you will be punished for your cruelty to the rakyat.

Timely Event : Meet Uncle Hussein or Uncle Barrack Obama Hussein

I missed the live telecast of Barrack Obama taking oath last night but luckily Youtube offers full coverage of the event. Probably I was too tired after spending the 2 hours watching live telecast of Juara Lagu the night before.

One thing common between Juara Lagu and US Presedential's inauguration is the name of a person "Hussein" (forget about the exact spelling) .

I now suspects "Lagu Untuk Mu" is for Obama. "Meet Uncle Hussein " really means " Meet Uncle Barrack Obama Hussein".
